The Mahindra Thar is India's most celebrated recreational 4x4, rolling on purposeful 255/65 R18 all-terrain rubber on LX trims (and 245/75 R16 steel wheels on AX Opt models). The factory 18-inch tyre boasts a generous 166mm sidewall height and a 31-inch outer rolling diameter, delivering 226mm of unladen ground clearance and a 650mm water-wading threshold. While the stock MRF Wanderer or CEAT CrossDrive tyres balance highway refinement and casual trail traction reasonably well, serious off-road enthusiasts frequently transition to more aggressive tread patterns like BFGoodrich KO2 or Maxxis Bighorn. For deep sand driving in Rajasthan dunes, airing down the tyres to 18-20 psi elongates the contact patch dramatically, allowing the Thar to float over powdery sand without bogging down; however, remember to reinflate to the factory 32 psi before returning to highway asphalt. The Thar's live rear axle and high body-on-frame stance make front-end wheel alignment sensitive to hard trail impacts: check toe and camber every 10,000 km to prevent asymmetric feathering on the front outer tread blocks.
