When Yamaha launched the original FZ16 in 2008, it revolutionized the Indian motorcycle landscape by introducing a superbike-inspired 140/60 R17 radial rear tyre to the 150cc commuter segment. That iconic fat rear footprint remains the visual and mechanical hallmark of today's FZ-S FI and FZ-X models. The 140mm wide radial rear tyre features flexible 90-degree steel/nylon plies that allow the tread face to deform flat against tarmac under hard cornering, delivering massive mid-corner lean stability that exceeds almost everything else in the 150cc class. The front 100/80-17 tyre provides quick, intuitive steering without nervous twitchiness. Yamaha prescribes 29 psi front and 33 psi rear for solo riding (36 psi rear with a pillion). When replacing the rear tyre, always demand a genuine radial tyre (marked 'R17', not '-17' bias-ply): fitting a cheaper cross-ply/bias tyre onto the rear stiffens the sidewall unnaturally, introducing a noticeable wallow over highway ripples and degrading wet-weather cornering grip.
